Storing Holiday Decorations
Holiday decorations can take up a surprising amount of space at home. Christmas decorations, Halloween décor, Thanksgiving items, wreaths, artificial trees, lights and seasonal displays can quickly fill closets, garages and spare rooms.

Organize Decorations by Holiday
Before placing decorations into storage, sort them by holiday or season. Keeping Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving and other decorations together makes it much easier to find what you need throughout the year.
Clearly label each box on more than one side so you can identify the contents even when boxes are stacked.
Choose the Right Containers
Use sturdy boxes or plastic storage containers that can be stacked safely. Fragile ornaments and decorations should be individually wrapped or separated with protective packing material.
Original packaging can be useful for delicate decorations when it is still in good condition. Specialty ornament containers can also help keep smaller items separated and protected.
Protect Lights and Wreaths
Wrap strings of lights around a cord reel, piece of cardboard or other organizer to help prevent tangling. Wreaths and other decorations that can be crushed should be stored in sturdy containers rather than underneath heavier boxes.
Before storing electrical decorations, make sure they are clean and completely dry.
Make Frequently Used Items Easy to Reach
Arrange your storage unit based on how often you’ll need your belongings. Seasonal decorations that you retrieve every year should be kept where they are relatively easy to access.
Leave a walkway when possible and place heavier boxes on the bottom with lighter or more fragile items above them.
