Self-storage is useful for household belongings, furniture, business inventory and many other items, but some things should never be placed in a storage unit.

Food and Perishable Items
Food and other perishable items should not be stored in a storage unit. They can spoil, create odors and attract insects or rodents.
Before storing kitchen or household items, make sure containers, appliances and boxes are clean and free of food residue.
People, Animals and Plants
Storage units are for storing belongings. They are not living spaces and should never be used to house people or animals.
Live plants also should not be placed in a storage unit because they require appropriate light, water and growing conditions.
Flammable, Explosive and Hazardous Materials
Do not store prohibited flammable, explosive, toxic, corrosive or hazardous materials. Examples may include explosives, fireworks, certain fuels, chemicals and other dangerous substances.

Firearms and Ammunition
